Chester’s MP Chris Matheson Meeting

In September 2015 we hosted a meeting with our local MP in coalition with the local community group Transition Chester. The meeting was arranged to focus on Solar Community projects, however due to the recent news about the proposed reduction to incentives for renewable energy the spotlight was turned to the feed in tariff.

Feed in Tariff Cuts

The primary topic of discussion was last weeks proposal to drastically reduce the incentives given to electricity producing renewable energy systems the Feed in Tariff.

Ministers have announced proposals to cut the amount paid for domestic solar arrays from 12.47p per kilowatt hour to 1.63p for new systems from January 2016 – a fall of 87 per cent.

The plans could mean almost a million renewable installations will be prevented from going ahead over the next five years, according to the Government’s impact assessment of the move.

Community Energy

Transition Chester have been preparing to form a community funded solar project in Chester. This project is now in jeopardy if the cuts are implemented as proposed, this would severely limit the financial return for potential investors.

Our Directors View

Genfit was founded in 2009 and has sought to provide a high quality service nationwide to renewable energy customers. The feed in tariff is the backbone of our business and delivers the carbon cuts and energy this country

Dave Houston said “The Feed in Tariff has transformed the way the UK generates its power over the last three years, with over 21 per cent of the UK’s power coming from renewables in the early part of 2015, and over 700,000 homes generating their own power.
