In September 2015 we hosted a meeting with our local MP in coalition with the local community group Transition Chester. The meeting was arranged to focus on Solar Community projects, however due to the recent news about the proposed reduction to incentives for renewable energy the spotlight was turned to the feed in tariff.
The primary topic of discussion was last weeks proposal to drastically reduce the incentives given to electricity producing renewable energy systems the Feed in Tariff.
Ministers have announced proposals to cut the amount paid for domestic solar arrays from 12.47p per kilowatt hour to 1.63p for new systems from January 2016 – a fall of 87 per cent.
The plans could mean almost a million renewable installations will be prevented from going ahead over the next five years, according to the Government’s impact assessment of the move.
Transition Chester have been preparing to form a community funded solar project in Chester. This project is now in jeopardy if the cuts are implemented as proposed, this would severely limit the financial return for potential investors.
