How much does it cost?
The cost of and installation time for a biomass system varies on systems size, where it is to be housed and what other works are required.
We will complete a full survey to assess heating load, location of equipment, etc, to ensure compliance with building regulations and ease of access for fuel deliveries. As we will be connecting to your existing heating/hot water system, we will ensure that any measures required to upgrade pipe/cylinder insulation are taken to ensure you do not waste fuel unnecessarily.
- Automated wood pellet stoves 5-7kW in output range from £2,000 – £4,000 including installation
- Boilers are in the range £5,000 – £11,000 including installation, flue and commissioning
How long does it take?
Domestic biomass systems typically take 1-2 days to install.
Commercial systems range from 45kW to 1MW. Due to their larger size and more complex heating/hot water systems installation time and cost can vary. RHI payments are designed to offer a typical 12% return on investment, although we faster returns may be achievable depending on site conditions.
Will I need planning permission?
Planning permission is not normally required for domestic installations if all the equipment is stored within the property. If a flue is required permitted development rules apply:
- if it is on the side or rear of the property and does not project more than 1m above the highest part of roof
For Conversation areas, World Heritage sites or listed buildings we will always check with planning department as to their requirements, if any, ahead of any installation works being carried out.
If your project requires an outside building to store fuel or related equipment the same rules apply as for other extensions and garden outbuildings.
Don’t worry we will ensure you comply.
